Refund & Cancellation Policy

Last Updated: May 3, 2026

SplitLocal uses a hold-then-capture payment model. Understanding how this works is key to understanding our refund and cancellation policy.

How Payments Work

When you commit to a deal, your payment card is authorized (held) for the order amount, but you are not charged. The charge is only captured after you successfully pick up your order and the seller confirms it. This means:

  • You see a "pending" hold on your card statement, not an actual charge
  • If the deal doesn't go through, the hold is automatically released
  • Holds expire after 7 days if not captured

Automatic Refunds (Hold Releases)

Your payment hold is automatically released (no charge) in these situations:

Deal Doesn't Reach Minimum

If a deal does not reach its minimum number of commitments by the deadline, the deal expires. All payment holds are automatically released. You receive an email notification.

Seller Cancels the Deal

If the seller cancels a deal before the pickup window, all payment holds are automatically released. You receive an email notification.

Buyer Cancels Before Deadline

You may cancel your order at any time before the commitment deadline as long as the deal has not yet locked. Your payment hold is immediately released. You can cancel from your order detail page.

After Pickup (Charges)

Once the seller confirms your pickup, the payment hold is captured (charged). At this point, the transaction is complete. Since you have received the goods, charges after pickup confirmation are final and non-refundable through SplitLocal.

If you have an issue with the quality or accuracy of the products you received, we encourage you to:

  • Leave a rating on the seller to help other buyers
  • Contact the seller directly to resolve the issue
  • Report the issue to contact us if you believe the seller engaged in fraud or misrepresentation

No-Shows

If you commit to a deal but fail to pick up your order during the pickup window:

Hold Release Timing

When a hold is released, it may take 3–10 business days for the pending authorization to disappear from your bank or credit card statement, depending on your financial institution. SplitLocal does not control this timing.
